Trailer leaf spring is an essential core suspension component specially designed for cargo trailers, utility trailers, flatbed trailers, dump trailers and semi-trailers. As a critical elastic part connecting the trailer frame and axle, it undertakes the key functions of load bearing, vibration buffering and driving stabilization, which directly determines the load capacity, riding stability and service life of the entire trailer. Different from truck and pickup leaf springs, trailer leaf springs are professionally optimized for long-distance highway transportation, frequent heavy-load running and continuous road vibration, featuring higher fatigue resistance and more stable structural performance.
Structurally, the trailer leaf spring adopts a multi-layer laminated steel plate structure, composed of graduated-length high-strength alloy steel leaves, center bolt, spring clips, rubber bushings and spacer pads. The longest main leaf with rolled eyes at both ends serves as the main stress-bearing structure, while the auxiliary leaves with decreasing lengths are stacked layer by layer to enhance overall stiffness and load-bearing performance. The center bolt penetrates all steel leaves to fix the overall structure and prevent lateral displacement during driving. Equipped with multiple rigid spring clips, it effectively avoids leaf separation and deformation during compression and rebound. Meanwhile, built-in rubber bushings and interleaf gaskets reduce metal friction, eliminate abnormal noise and relieve wear, greatly improving the overall durability of the spring assembly.
The working principle of trailer leaf springs is simple and efficient. When the trailer travels on uneven roads, bumps and vibration generated by the road surface are transmitted from the wheels to the axle and then to the leaf spring pack. The stacked steel plates produce elastic bending deformation to absorb and buffer impact energy, isolating road vibration from the trailer cargo platform. When the impact disappears, the high-toughness alloy steel automatically rebounds to its original arc shape. In addition to shock absorption, it can effectively limit axle offset, restrain lateral rolling and prevent wheel jumping, ensuring straight-line stability and safe braking of heavy-load trailers.
Manufactured with premium 60Si2Mn and 51CrV4 alloy spring steel, trailer leaf springs possess excellent tensile strength, impact toughness and anti-fatigue performance. The whole production process includes precision cutting, hot forming, camber calibration, integral quenching and tempering heat treatment, surface shot peening and anti-corrosion coating. Shot peening technology eliminates surface stress concentration and improves fatigue resistance, while electrophoretic painting and epoxy spray coating effectively resist corrosion from rain, snow, salt spray and muddy roads, adapting to various harsh transportation environments.
Trailer leaf springs are mainly divided into standard multi-leaf springs and parabolic leaf springs. Traditional multi-leaf springs have high rigidity and strong load-bearing capacity, suitable for heavy-duty cargo trailers and engineering trailers. Parabolic leaf springs with tapered variable-thickness design reduce inter-leaf friction, offering lighter weight and smoother shock absorption, which is widely used in medium and light-duty logistics trailers. All products comply with international automotive industry standards, with precise size and stable performance, fully compatible with mainstream trailer models in the market.
With the advantages of simple and reliable structure, low failure rate, low maintenance cost and strong environmental adaptability, trailer leaf springs have become the most mainstream suspension solution for commercial trailers. They provide stable load support and reliable shock absorption for long-distance freight, short-distance distribution and engineering transportation, protecting trailer chassis and cargo safety, and reducing vehicle operation costs.
